Volunteer Bond
The Owen Sound Skating Club has been named as the host of a large, province-wide skating competition to take place February 14-16, 2020 at the Julie McArthur Regional Rec Centre. We are expecting to host over 250 skaters competing in 24 different event categories!
We are excited to welcome skaters from across the province not only to compete in their events but to enjoy the sights and sounds of Grey Bruce on the Family Day long weekend.
This competition will serve as a MAJOR fundraiser for the Owen Sound Skating Club and requires volunteer contributions from our members to help make this event a success. In light of this need, we’ve implemented our Volunteer Bond as a mandatory portion of the registration fee for our Fall/Winter programs in 2019-20.
How Does it Work?
The Volunteer Bond is an assigned commitment of $75 dedicated to the operations of our competition on February 14-16, 2020. When you register a skater, you will see a charge in the amount of $75 labeled “Volunteer Bond” automatically added to your invoice. If you choose to pay by installment, this charge is deferred to February 28, 2020. If you choose to pay in full at the time of registration, this charge is included in the total amount billed.
What are my options?
The Volunteer Bond works two ways
What will volunteers do?
There are many different volunteer opportunities available – most tasks don’t require any skating knowledge! Here is a sample list:
Set-up/Take Down Crews - Assembling judges stands, putting up signage, tables, chairs, cordoning off skater areas etc
Admissions Table - Operate cash register to collect gate admission fees, sell flowers etc
Registration Table - Welcome skaters, coaches, officials and volunteers, record their arrive and provide credential badges
Hospitality Services - Ensure our volunteers and officials’ rest areas are stocked with food and beverages
Runners - Transport skater’s music, competition results etc throughout the rink… make sure to wear your FitBit!
How do I sign up for a volunteer opportunity?
Beginning November 1st, all members will be sent a link to our volunteer sign-up page. From there, you can pick the tasks, dates and times of your choosing
Can anyone volunteer?
Absolutely! The more the merrier – if you have a friend/relative/colleague or community group who would like to help us out we would be happy to have them onboard.
Will volunteer time count towards high school volunteering requirements?
Yes! We will sign volunteer hours log-books and provide a letter for students thanking them for their efforts
Can I delegate my volunteer hours?
Yes, if a grandparent/friend/relative would like to carry out your volunteer commitment on your behalf, we would require completion of a signed volunteer delegation form (available November 1)
